Accountant

Who are we: 

SPAR Malta is currently seeking to recruit an Accountant to join our Finance team on a full-time basis. The main purpose for this position is to assist the Group CFO in the day to day accounting functions. 

SPAR Malta, operating under Malta Retailing Ltd. is a prominent conglomerate in the FMCG industry, forming part of a group of companies which include Valhmor Borg Imp/Exp Ltd, Miracle Foods Ltd, Iceland and FoodPro Malta Ltd. Each entity within the group plays a unique and integral role in delivering high-quality food products and services to a diverse clientele.

Your Role: 

• Preparation of monthly Management Accounts;

• Assisting / Co-ordinating in the preparation of the yearly budgets / ad-hoc forecasts;

• Assisting the Chief Financial Officer in the preparation of ad-hoc reports;

• Preparation of VAT Returns + respective submissions;

• Be part of and collaborate effectively with the finance team/s with respect to deadlines;

• Supervising and monitoring the work of the finance team/s;

• Liaising with external auditors on a constant basis in particular before the yearly Audit;

• Assessing daily processes with a view to improve efficiency;

• Attend to in-house/external training courses as requested by the Chief Financial Officer;

• Any other duties as requested by the Chief Financial Officer from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent qualification;

• 3+ years of experience in accounting, with a demonstrated track record in a similar role;

• Advanced proficiency in accounting software and MS Office, especially Excel;

• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills;

• Proven ability to work independently and meet deadlines;

• Ability to work well within a cross-functional team environment and diverse communities;

• Previous experience in the FMCG sector would be preferred.
