About the Department

Technology is at the core of the knowledge-based organisation. It enables MFSA's strategic and operational objectives to be achieved efficiently and effectively.The Technology team leverages cutting-edge technology, industry standards and methodologies to provide reliable services to the rest of the organisation and the financial services sectors interacting with the Authority electronically. It is responsible for technology design, information security, development, integration and delivery of all information and communications infrastructure, platforms and services, working with technology vendors and partners.The Technology team is made up of professionals specialised in relevant areas that include governance and planning, infrastructure and service management, information systems, and security. Officials from Technology also participate and give their contribution in several European committees, expert groups and industry fora.

About the Role

The Junior Cybersecurity Officer will undertake duties in relation to cybersecurity and contribute to safeguarding the organisation's infrastructure, whilst ensuring the integrity of systems and data. The selected candidate will be expected to carry out the following tasks:

  • Assist in the implementation of policies and best practices, to mitigate potential cyber threats;
  • Assist in vulnerability assessments to identify and address potential security weaknesses within MFSA's systems;
  • Assist in the monitoring of cybersecurity alerts and events generated by security systems and tools;
  • Assist in the development and delivery of security awareness training programs for employees;
  • Assist in documenting and reporting security incidents, vulnerabilities, and remediation efforts;
  • Contribute during meetings, working groups, and discussions related to cybersecurity, including note-taking and follow-up actions;
  • Assist in information security and ICT risk assessment activities, including the collection of information and maintenance of relevant documentation;
  • Research and stay up to date with the latest cybersecurity trends, threats, and countermeasures to enhance our organisation's security posture;
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Head and/or as may be required by the MFSA from time to time based on the exigencies of the Authority.

About you

We are looking for candidates with good academic background in ICT but well versed in cybersecurity and/or network infrastructure.

The role calls for an academic qualification in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or a relevant field at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least five (5) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.

Skills and competencies:

  • Fundamental knowledge of computer networks, systems, and security concepts.
  • Good understanding of common cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and attack vectors.
  • Effective communication and documentation skills.
  • Candidates in possession of an IT security certification will be preferred.
