Whilst reporting to the Head Chef, the Kitchen Steward is responsible to maintain cleanliness and assist in the organisation of kitchen and dishwashing area at MYKONOS by YIAMAS restaurant. The chosen candidates need to have a friendly and positive attitude whilst work closely with kitchen staff to ensure an excellent customer service is delivered. 

Duties

  • Inspect and clean food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or serving areas to ensure conformance to safe and sanitary food-handling standards
  • Wash kitchen utensils, dishes, fridges, freezers, tables and other kitchen items and equipment
  • Unpack items and place them in freezers, cabinets, and other storage spaces
  • Assist with food preparations basics like chopping vegetables, portioning ingredients and other preparations as instructed by the supervisor
  • Store deliveries in designated areas as instructed and ensure that items are labelled and organised
  • Organise and upkeep the storage, fridge and freeze
  • Remove waste and recyclables and place them in the appropriate bins
  • Adhere to the internal standard operating procedures to be followed by all front of house personnel
  • Comply with all employer guidelines and legal requirements for health and safety, hygiene, fire safety, licensing and employment
  • Perform assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with work requirements

Work Schedule

  • 40 hours a week split as required by restaurant hours
  • Being accessible during the evening and on weekends

Experience

  • Minimum experience of 1 year in the food catering industry working as a kitchen steward will be considered an asset

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Has a strong team player attitude
  • Able to proficiently communicate in English, additional languages are welcome especially Greek
  • Knowledge of Greek cuisine and culture is a plus
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
  • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Must be reliable and punctual
