Michele's Cafe in Malta is looking to recruit a Chef de Partie to join their team on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and cook food to order, ensuring the quality and consistency of dishes.
  • Oversee and manage a particular section or station within the kitchen, such as a grill or sauté.
  • Train and develop junior chefs or cooks, providing guidance and feedback to help them improve their skills.
  • Manage inventory and ensure that all ingredients and supplies are in stock and properly stored.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices.
  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff to plan and develop menu items, ensuring that they are creative, seasonal, and cost-effective.
  • Monitor food waste and maintain cost controls to ensure profitability.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper maintenance and cleaning of kitchen equipment.
  • Work well under pressure, managing multiple orders and ensuring that dishes are prepared in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with other kitchen staff, including the executive chef and sous chefs, to ensure a smooth and efficient operation.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; culinary degree or certificate is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a professional kitchen, with experience in a particular station or section.
  • Strong culinary skills and knowledge of various cooking techniques and methods.
  • Ability to manage and lead a team of junior chefs or cooks, providing guidance, training, and feedback.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple orders and prioritize tasks.
  • Knowledge of inventory management, including ordering and maintaining stock levels.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations and food handling practices.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with other kitchen staff and front-of-house teams.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality, ensuring that dishes are prepared to the highest standards.
