Medical Doctor (Specialty in Geriatrics)

Lyons Care in Malta is currently looking to recruit a Medical Doctor (Specialty in Geriatrics) to join their team on a full-time basis.

Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Medical Doctor specializing in geriatrics to provide high-quality healthcare services to our residents and visiting patients at our nursing home facility. This role involves both in-house medical care for residents and an on-site outpatient clinic open to external patients, ensuring comprehensive care across all levels. The doctor will be on call as needed to attend to any urgent requirements at the residence.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Healthcare for Residents:

• Conduct regular assessments, diagnose, and treat illnesses and chronic conditions common among the elderly population
• Develop and oversee individualized treatment plans that address the physical and mental health needs of each resident
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure a holistic approach to resident care, including collaborating with nursing, physiotherapy, and dietary teams

Outpatient Clinic:

• Operate and manage an on-site outpatient clinic for external patients, primarily catering to elderly individuals seeking geriatric expertise
• Provide consultations, conduct necessary evaluations, and recommend appropriate treatments, referrals, and follow-ups.

On-Call Services:

• Be available for on-call service, addressing any medical emergencies or urgent care needs within the nursing home
• Respond to and manage critical situations promptly and efficiently, maintaining calm and professionalism

Preventative Care and Wellness Programs:

• Lead and participate in preventative health programs, offering guidance on lifestyle adjustments, immunizations, and health screenings
• Educate residents and families on the aging process and associated health management, promoting proactive, preventive health measures

Record-Keeping and Documentation:

• Maintain detailed and accurate medical records for each resident and outpatient, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational standards
• Update and review medical documentation regularly, communicating updates to the appropriate teams when necessary.

Qualifications:

• Medical degree with a specialization or experience in geriatrics
• Valid medical license to practice in Malta
• Proven experience working in a geriatric setting, ideally within a residential or nursing home environment
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with elderly patients, their families, and care staff
• Capacity to manage on-call responsibilities with a commitment to responsive and reliable service.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with chronic disease management and end-of-life care
• Familiarity with healthcare technology used in elder care and outpatient clinic settings
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
