Role Overview
The Deputy Maintenance Manager will work closely with the Maintenance Manager to ensure the smooth operation of all building services and facilities across the organisation’s sites. The role involves coordinating preventative maintenance, overseeing repairs, and supporting installation and upkeep activities. A strong technical background combined with leadership capability and a sound understanding of health and safety standards is essential for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance Planning & Execution: Oversee the implementation of maintenance schedules, reactive repairs, and planned upkeep activities across all facilities.
  • Supervision & Coordination: Manage maintenance staff workload, provide guidance, and ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Contractor & Supplier Management: Liaise with external service providers and contractors to ensure quality delivery of maintenance services.
  • Inspections & Compliance: Carry out routine inspections, maintain accurate maintenance records, and ensure adherence to health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Operational Support: Assist with audits, monitor equipment and inventory, and provide ongoing technical and operational support to ensure uninterrupted facility operations.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes

  • Education: Diploma level qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, or Maintenance Operations (MQF Level 4 or higher considered an asset). Licence A and B in electrical installation is required.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a maintenance supervisory or managerial capacity, ideally within facilities or building services. Experience in maintenance planning and coordination of technical operations is highly desirable.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly with internal teams, management, and external contractors.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to build effective working relationships and lead teams with confidence and respect.
  • Technical Skills: Solid understanding of plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, and building maintenance equipment including boilers, calorifiers, and industrial laundry machinery. Computer literacy is essential.
  • Organisation: Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-Motivated: A proactive and hands-on approach with the ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to respond quickly and effectively to operational issues.
