About the Department

The Due Diligence Function protects the interests of consumers and investors by centralising integrity checks on persons and entities licenced by the Authority. This is done through the usage of industry-leading and specialised screening tools, obtaining information from within as well as outside the Authority as well as through the application of subject matter expertise. The Due Diligence coordinates actively with other local and foreign authoritative bodies to share information as well as experiences and training. Within this context, the Function plays an important role in determining approved individuals’ fitness and properness as well as the reputation of current and prospective licence holders.

About the Role

You will be expected to:

• Conduct basic and enhanced due diligence and screening by verifying documentation, performing screening using “open source” and specialised tools and evaluating results.
• Act as a reference point by providing fellow analysts with guidance and support, particularly on more complex cases.
• Carry out checks on entities by reviewing corporate documentation, accessing data from registries, verifying ownership and conducting screening.
• Oversee quality levels of reports delivered and provide verbal and written feedback to other members of the team.
• Take the lead and communicate with other regulatory authorities on matters concerning the Due Diligence Function as well as the Authority’s.
• Conduct checks on new applications received by prospective licenceholders.
• Analyse, assess, present and discuss findings with management.
• Prepare and analyse management information to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Summarise findings within reports that can be shared with management.
• Take an active role in the delivery of new initiatives to drive forward MFSA’s Strategic Priorities.
• Identify process improvements and contribute towards their implementation.
• Develop other initiatives that are conducive towards the growth of the Function and the Authority’s standing and
• Other duties and tasks as may be assigned by senior management.

About you

You will hold qualification at MQF Level 6 or higher in criminology, financial services or in any other relevant field. If your qualifications are not from Malta, please make sure that they are certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.

A minimum of five (5) years prior experience is required, preferably within the financial services sector or related fields.

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but have at least ten (10) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.

A sound knowledge of financial services legislation, familiarity with the financial service’s regulatory framework, an understanding of financial crime including money laundering and financing of terrorism, and a relevant Post-Graduate Degree would be considered as an advantage.

The following skill set is a must for this position:

• The ability to multi-task and work on own initiative;
• The ability to work in a team;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• The ability to cope with a large volume of work, prioritise and deliver under pressure;
• Sound analytical and judgmental skills.
