Malta Financial Services Authority is currently looking to recruit a Junior Assistant (TCSP) to join their team on an internship basis.

About the Department:
The regulation and supervision of professional trustees and other fiduciaries as well as company service providers fall within the remit of the MFSA and the MFSA has a specific function designated with the responsibility for the authorisation as well as the supervision of both sectors. The function's main objective is to ensure that licensed trustees and fiduciaries and company service providers have the appropriate structures and systems in place to service clients adequately whilst at the same time preserving their reputation as well as Malta's reputation, taking into account our international commitments. Persons wishing to provide such services must therefore satisfy fitness and propriety requirements which are assessed at the application stage before being granted authorisation to carry out the activities of trustees and company service providers.  Following authorisation, a mixture of tools is utilised concerning supervision, consisting of both onsite inspections and offsite reviews, analyses and assessments, to ensure that the expected standards continue to be adhered to on an ongoing basis.

About the Role:
Within this role, you will support the operational aspects of the Trustees and Company Service Providers Supervision Function which is responsible for the review of applications of trustees and company service providers the assessment of key officials requiring approval by the MFSA as well as the ongoing supervision of the conduct of respective licence holders. Through working closely with a multi-disciplinary team, the role will provide you with exposure to the area of regulation, licensing and supervision, and to grow professionally in a fast-paced environment. 

You will be responsible for providing support in any of the following areas:

  • Handling effective and efficient recordkeeping practices of the function
  • Supporting the coordination of the internal and external communication needs of the function relating to authorisation and supervision processes and workstreams
  • Providing support with reviewing and analysing the regular offsite reporting of authorised persons, including annual financial statements, compliance reports and other regulatory returns
  • Supporting other staff members in the conduct of onsite inspections and other supervisory engagements with authorised trustees, fiduciaries and company service providers
  • Assisting in the maintenance of the register of beneficial owners of trusts and dealing with queries relating to the register
  • Supporting the re-engineering and standardization of work projects, including testing
  • Supporting with the creation or amendment of templates, databases and checklists utilised by the Function
  • Researching emerging trends and legal developments
  • Undertake any other tasks delegated by senior management in line with the exigencies of the Function.

About You:
We are looking for candidates who are eager to join an enthusiastic team with a keen interest in financial services and compliance.  Interested candidates should be currently reading for, or in the process of obtaining a qualification at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level in Law, Banking & Finance or any other related area.

The ideal applicant should demonstrate the following skills/experience:

  • Self-driven and ability to meet deadlines
  • Interest in financial services and willingness to broaden knowledge in these areas
  • Attention to detail and strive for quality and accuracy of the work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
