Role Overview
In collaboration with Heroix, the Client is seeking an IT Systems Support Engineer to join its technology function, playing a key role in ensuring the stability, availability, and efficient operation of core banking and infrastructure systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting day-to-day IT operations, assisting with system administration tasks, and contributing to the smooth running of critical business processes, including scheduled system cycles and infrastructure maintenance. This role also involves providing hands-on technical support to end users and collaborating closely with wider IT teams to improve service delivery and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Systems Operations: Execute routine operational procedures across core banking and business platforms, including end-of-day processing activities and scheduled evening and weekend system tasks.
  • IT Support Services: Provide first-line and second-line technical assistance for desktop and laptop environments, covering both hardware and software issues, while supporting continuous improvement of helpdesk processes.
  • Infrastructure Maintenance: Assist in maintaining the stability and performance of IT infrastructure, including servers, systems, and related business applications, to ensure optimal functionality.
  • User & Network Administration: Manage user accounts, access permissions, and directory services, while supporting network administration activities including Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP environments.
  • Data & Continuity Support: Carry out backup procedures, restore operations, disaster recovery testing, and routine system checks, ensuring accurate documentation and system reliability at all times.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes

  • Education: A recognised qualification such as an MCAST diploma or university degree in Information and Communication Technology or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Previous exposure to IT support or technical operations roles is preferred, ideally within a structured or regulated environment.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to convey technical information clearly and effectively to non-technical users, with strong listening skills and a customer-focused approach.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Confident and collaborative team player capable of building positive working relationships across departments.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL scripting (T-SQL), Microsoft Office 365, Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP. Exposure to database or application development concepts would be beneficial.
  • Organisation: Strong ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and maintain accurate records of system activities and checks.
  • Self-Motivated: Proactive mindset with a willingness to learn, adapt to new systems, and develop expertise within banking technologies and processes.
  • Problem-Solving: Logical thinker with strong analytical skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
