St. Edward's College in Malta is currently looking to recruit a Boarding Supervisor to join their team on a part-time basis.

General concept of the role:

As a Boarding Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring the well-being, safety, and discipline of students residing in the boarding facility. You will play a crucial role in maintaining a positive and supportive living environment conducive to academic and personal development.

1. Responsibilities:

1.1 Student Welfare:

  • Monitor the overall well-being of students in the boarding facility
  • Attend to the emotional, physical, and academic needs of students
  • Provide support and guidance to students facing personal challenges.

1.2 Safety and Security:

  • Enforce and uphold safety and security protocols within the boarding facility
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure a safe and clean living environment
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and take appropriate action.

1.3 Supervision and Discipline:

  • Implement and enforce boarding rules and regulations
  • Address disciplinary issues promptly and fairly
  • Foster a positive and respectful atmosphere among students.

1.4 Communication:

  • Maintain open communication with students, staff, and parents/guardians
  • Maintain the supervisor’s logbook updated whilst on duty
  • Ensure that a proper handover is given to the next supervisor
  • Report incidents, concerns, and noteworthy developments to relevant authorities
  • Attend regular meetings to address concerns and disseminate information.

1.5 Administrative Tasks:

  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, behaviour, and incidents
  • Collaborate with other staff members to coordinate daily activities and routines
  • Assist in the development and implementation of boarding policies.

1.6 Crisis Intervention:

  • Be prepared to handle crisis situations and provide support to students in distress
  • Collaborate with appropriate professionals (eg: medical staff) when needed.

2. Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Youth work, Social Work or related field is considered an asset
  • Previous experience in student supervision or residential life preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to enforce rules fairly and maintain discipline
  • Crisis management and conflict resolution skills
  • Sensitivity to the diverse needs and backgrounds of students
  • First Aid and food handling certification (or willingness to obtain).

Working Conditions:

  • Boarding Supervisors are required to work mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • The position may involve on-call responsibilities whilst on duty.
