Loader ( ramp common worker) 

The professional figure of the Loading/Unloading Staff has the task of performing, on the basis of precise indications received, the assistance services for baggage, goods and freight, aircraft cleaning, ensuring compliance with the procedures, standard times,  prevention and protection rules for the work performed and flight safety. Here are some of the main tasks carried out by the Loader. 

  • Provide for the positioning and removal of the chocks for the locking of the aircraft  wheels and the opening and closing of the holds; 
  • Carry out, conducting them personally, the transfer, positioning and removal of ladders,  belts, tractors, trolleys and other self-propelled and non-self-propelled vehicles,  necessary for the performance of the activities needed. 
  • Ensure, if assigned to the baggage sorting area, the collection, arrangement and sorting of baggage from the bay on specific containers (ULD) or on specific trolleys for the transport of baggage to and from the aircraft. 
  • Ensure correct tracking of departing baggage (reconciliation) through the systems  provided at the airport (automated or paper), promptly reporting any malfunctions of  the system or of the bay to the manager in charge and/or to the appropriate airport  authorities 
  • Provide for the manual and mechanical loading and unloading of the aircraft,  positioning the loaded quantities in compliance with the procedures established for the type of aircraft. 
  • Arrange, by using a tractor, for the transfer of rolling stock (trolleys, dollies, platforms,  containers, pallets) to the stand and for the transport of luggage, freight and mail arriving/departing from and to the processing areas. 
  • Providing, in compliance with the predefined standards and current procedures, for the transfer, positioning and use of GPU, ASU, and ACU for specific aircraft assistance. 
  • Providing, by driving and use of specific GSE, the supply of potable water and the loading/unloading of toilets on the AA/MM. 
  • Carry out the clearing of the stands/aprons, as well as the positioning of the equipment and vehicles in the appropriate storage areas, together with the finding and collection of chocks and anything else deemed necessary for the activities. 
  • Carry out the handling and sorting of the baggage handled in the work areas (passenger/crew baggage arriving, departing and in transit), in compliance with the pre-established standards and current procedures. 
  • Provide for the finding, positioning and reordering of equipment. 
  • Carry out the transport, by tractor, of baggage trolleys departing from the baggage area to the aircraft stand. 
  • Also provides for the movement of trolleys between the various processing areas (international, national, and safety). 
  • Refuel the vehicles, and is mandatory to report any anomalies, damage or problems encountered during normal activities to the DSC.
  • Carry out all cleaning operations inside the aircraft (backrest, ashtrays, galleys, corridors, toilets and cabin fittings) parked on the stand. 
  • Taking care of the tidying up of the aircraft cabin, the arrangement of seat belts, cushions, headrests, blankets, magazines, etc. 
  • Retrieve and dispose of waste bags taken on board by transferring them to the appropriate storage and disposal areas set up by the Airport Manager. 

Aviation Services Handling Limited in Malta is currently looking to recruit an Airport Operations Ramp Common Worker to join their team on a full-time basis.

Candidates applying must be residing in Malta or any other European country.

Job Role:

The candidate will be part of the operating team within the Airport's ground services.

Requirements:  

  • Availability to work on alternating shifts on 24h rotation 
  • EU Driving License (B – D) 
  • English proficiency in written and spoken (liv B2) 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills 
  • Clean code of conduct (no criminal records) 


*Preferential criteria will be provided to candidates who have already gained previous experience in the tourism and transport sector.
