Cashier

Our client is a leading retail company in Malta, offering a wide range of products and solutions for the home. They are looking for a reliable and customer-focused Cashier to join their team and ensure a smooth, efficient, and positive checkout experience for all customers.

Position Summary

The Cashier will be responsible for processing customer transactions accurately and efficiently while providing professional and friendly service. The role also involves handling payments, maintaining accurate transaction records, supporting customers with queries, and contributing to the smooth operation of the store.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

• Provide courteous, professional, and helpful service to all customers.
• Assist customers with queries regarding purchases, guarantees, returns, store procedures, and company policies.
• Ensure customers receive a positive final impression of the store.
• Escalate customer concerns or complaints to the Supervisor when required.

Transaction Handling

• Process cash, card, and other approved payment methods accurately and efficiently.
• Ensure all transactions are correctly registered in the point of sale system.
• Issue receipts, guarantees, and other relevant documentation accurately.
• Handle and pack customer purchases carefully to prevent damage.

Cash Handling and Accountability

• Count and verify the assigned cash float at the beginning of each shift.
• Ensure the cash register is accurately balanced at the end of each shift.
• Report any discrepancies to the Supervisor immediately.
• Follow all company procedures relating to cash handling and financial accountability.
• Cooperate with cash checks and audits carried out by Management.

Checkout Area Maintenance

• Maintain a clean, organised, and professional checkout area at all times.
• Ensure shelves and displays around the checkout area are stocked and tidy.
• Follow company merchandising and housekeeping standards.

Teamwork and Flexibility

• Support the Sales and Customer Care teams when required.
• Assist during busy periods to ensure smooth store operations.
• Contribute towards achieving store targets and key performance indicators.
• Attend training sessions to improve product knowledge and operational skills.
• Be flexible with working hours and shift schedules according to business requirements.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Cashier, Retail Assistant, Customer Service Representative, or in a similar role will be considered an advantage.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong integrity and responsibility when handling cash and financial transactions.
• Professional and friendly approach when dealing with customers.
• Ability to remain calm and efficient during busy periods.
• Good teamwork and adaptability.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays, according to operational requirements.
