Malta International Airport plc is looking for dynamic individuals who are passionate about working with people within an Airport environment and are willing to continuously learn, develop, and be part of a high-performance culture. This vacancy has arisen within the MET Office Department on a full-time basis.

Purpose of Position:

Support the MET Office Manager in evaluating meteorological systems and processes, ensuring data integrity, quality assurance, and managing data processing and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor Met Office systems collecting meteorological and climatological data across Malta and Gozo, ensuring consistent, uninterrupted data flow.
  • Address software issues with developers, network departments, SITA, and MATS as needed.
  • Assist the MET Office Manager in identifying, mitigating, and monitoring safety risks from changes to systems, equipment, software, and procedures affecting Meteorological Services for Air Navigation, Marine, and Civil sectors.
  • Coordinate with developers, networks, SITA, and MATS as required.
  • Prepare documentation for system, equipment, or software changes.
  • Brief Observers and Forecasters on new tools and system updates.
  • Lead the preparation of monthly NSO data, climatological data, and quality verification reports.
  • Conduct statistical analysis of meteorological data.
  • Maintain records of aviation and civil bulletins, advisories, and warnings,
  • Assist in updating ISO policies and documentation in line with EU, ICAO, ISO, and QMS standards.
  • Handle data requests for educational, legal, and commercial purposes.
  • Provide expert testimony in court proceedings regarding meteorological data, as required.
  • Ensure proper archiving and safekeeping of current and historical MET Office records.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications for press releases and social media content.
  • Give meteorological presentations to students, organizations, and departments.
  • Participate in international MET organizations and projects as needed.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment with internal and external teams.
  • Support general administrative duties, including meeting coordination, minute-taking, and follow-up.
  • Perform any additional tasks assigned by management or MIA.

Requirements

  • A relevant university degree in Earth Systems, Geography, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, and possessing a positive attitude.
  • Proactive approach to work, with the ability to take initiative and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
  • Strong analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with A-level or Intermediate qualifications in Mathematics and/or Physics.
  • Strong consideration will also be given to candidates with a demonstrated aptitude for IT.
