Deriv (Europe) Ltd in Malta is currently looking to recruit a Legal Counsel (In-house) to join their team on a full-time basis.

Your role:
As an In-house Legal Counsel, you should have expertise in investment services and e-commerce. You will be responsible for drafting and reviewing contracts and providing advice on contractual issues and disputes. Your role will be expected to maintain a thorough understanding of regulatory frameworks relevant to our business and advise Deriv on how to effectively navigate and comply with them. You will work closely with regulators and other legal professionals to ensure that our operations are compliant and that we manage our legal risk effectively.

In this role, you will need to be a strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You must be able to communicate complex legal concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner. You should have excellent attention to detail and be able to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Your challenges:

  • Provide legal counsel to the Deriv companies on key agreements in various jurisdictions
  • Offer accurate and timely advice on various legal topics, such as regulatory compliance, intellectual property rights, financial, data protection, anti-money laundering, anti-bribery and corruption, and international contract matters
  • Provide tax and corporate advice as part of any corporate restructuring exercises, including those with a cross-border element
  • Draft and/or review policies and procedures, assist with licensing, and ensure ongoing compliance obligations of all Deriv entities
  • Keep the senior leadership team informed of any legal and regulatory changes that impact the Group and also recommend necessary measures to undertake
  • Offer legal counsel on employment legislation, and create and implement strategies for avoiding and resolving disputes
  • Stay updated on legislative and regulatory developments in the fintech industry
  • Develop plans to ensure the company complies with all applicable legal requirements in various jurisdictions.


What you have:

  • 5+ years of experience in a corporate legal environment
  • A university degree in law or a relevant field 
  • Risk assessment skills 
  • Awareness of legislative and regulatory developments in the fintech industry
  • Competence in offering data-oriented legal guidance
  • Expertise in complex technological and financial systems and their interactions with law
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the capability to work with all levels of personnel with a high degree of integrity and maturity
  • Attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work on multiple priorities simultaneously
  • A can-do attitude with an eagerness to learn and develop your career
  • Excellent spoken and written English communication skill
