Our client, a leading company within the retail industry is seeking to recruit a Legal Counsel. Forming part of the Business Support Team, the selected candidate will have the following responsibilities:
Drafting, reviewing and authorizing contracts as per the Group's governance and standards
Providing legal advice on corporate compliance globally, handling legal related issues as well as other arising issues
Liaising with external providers of consultancy and legal services and other relevant authorities
Setting up and the archiving of all ongoing contracts, agreements, and other legal documents
Acquiring signatures as required and ensuring that contracts are in line with all regulatory requirements
Updating relevant stakeholders when contracts and other legal documents have been signed including a summary where necessary
Supporting in the setting up of Corporate structures and Joint Venture Agreements
Carrying out due diligence, risk assessment and compliance checks related to new business
Ensuring the company complies with its outside regulatory requirements and internal policies as well as systems of control
Keeping abreast in regulatory developments within and outside of the company and evolving best practices in compliance control
Ensuring the company is compliant with the requirements and deadlines imposed by the Registry of Companies and other relevant government agencies and institutions
Working in conjunction with the regulators to keep the List of Insiders related to the company updated as necessary
Maintaining the Governance calendar as updated as possible and informing the relevant stakeholders of pending activities
Deliver training and awareness sessions related to AML to relevant stakeholders
Ensuring that the group is in line with all IP requirements arising from contracts with third parties
Reviewing the company's own IP (including trademarks) and ensuring the group is protected in this regard
Skill-sets and Requirements
Minimum 3 years experience working in a similar role as a Legal Counsel/Lawyer.
In-depth understanding of the court’s legal procedures and government regulations
Excellent command of verbal and written English
Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work on own initiative
Team player and ability building and maintaining relationships with clients and stakeholdersn
