Scientist/Engineer R&D

Job Description
Sentech Malta FP Limited are looking to recruit a Scientist/Engineer R&D to join their team on a full-time basis.

This position reports to the Directors of the company and will work in the R&D department. The selected candidate’s main role will principally be related to diagnostics and design related to the electronics used in our fibre optic gyroscopes. The position will be directly involved in environmental qualification testing of newly developed fibre optic gyroscopes including among others (1) Vibration Testing of gyros; (2) Shock Testing of gyros - up to 3000g.
Furthermore, being part of the R&D team, it is expected to have a general hands-on approach with the rest of the R&D team.

Duties:

• The position will be responsible for analogue board diagnostics and development.
• This position will be involved in maintaining the Qualification lab up to current requirements, creating, managing and maintaining a comprehensive documentation system.
• The position will help liaise between R&D and production.
• This position will also be responsible for testing optical components including but not limited to:
  • Measurement of distributed polarization crosstalk in PM fibre with Michelson interferometer.
  • Spectral measurement of PM (polarization maintaining) fibre beat length.
  • Spectral measurement of fibre cut-off wavelength.
  • H-parameter testing of PM fibre and fibre coils.

• Have a minimum MQF level 6 (level 7 or higher preferred) in Electronics or Physics
• Are able to make general use of Microsoft-based PCs and associated software.
• Are capable of working in a team environment.
• Are capable of good communication with technical and non-technical people.
• Are capable of working on own initiative.

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and/or experience in:

• Analogue circuit design
• Use of Altium Software
• The optical and photonics field.
• Optical interferometry.
• Single-mode PM fibres.
• Super luminescent diodes
• Fibre optic gyroscopes.
