National Statistics Office in Malta is currently looking to recruit a Statistician to join their team on a full-time basis.

Job description:

The National Statistics Office (NSO) of Malta is looking for aspiring and talented individuals to produce statistics and work as Statistician on a full-time indefinite basis.

The incumbents will be assigned to horizontal or technical units according to their area of specialization and the exigencies of the Office.

This position is an excellent career opportunity for prospective candidates with an academic background in Banking and Finance, Mathematics, Statistics and Operations Research, Engineering, Economics, Accountancy, and Information Technology, and, besides an excellent level of interpersonal and communication skills, the successful candidates must have sound numerical and analytical skills.


Responsibilities

The duties of a Statistician include:  

  • Designing methods and procedures for obtaining data, such as surveys and administrative sources 
  • Contributing to the development of innovative data collection and analytical tools 
  • Verifying data for inaccuracies and applying statistical methods to address such limitations 
  • Analyzing data in economic, business and social fields, in both aggregate and raw form 
  • Contributing to the writing of reports and the preparation of data for publication 
  • Helping to build confidence in statistics using the guidelines of the National Statistics Office and the principles of the European Statistics Code of Practice 
  • Identifying client needs and presenting findings 
  • Interpreting statistical analysis for policy development 
  • Participating in and contributing to research 
  • Following and taking part in national and international statistical fora 
  • Carrying out ancillary duties as may be assigned by superiors.

Requirements

Applicants for this post must:  

  • Be in possession of a recognised certificate equivalent to the Malta Qualification Framework (MQF) level 6 or above in Mathematics, Statistics and Operations Research, Economics, Accountancy, Banking and Finance , Engineering or Information Technology (candidates who have not yet formally obtained the qualifications specified heretofore will still be considered, provided that they submit evidence that they are in the final phase of their course leading to such qualifications); 
  • Demonstrate a good command of the English language, together with Maltese or any other official European language. 



Prospective applicants should note the requirement to produce MQRIC recognition statements in respect of their qualifications from MQRIC, or other designated authorities, as applicable, as per provisions applicable to this call for applications.

Salary:

The position carries a starting remuneration of €28,950 for the year 2024, which remuneration increases annually subject to provisions of the Collective Agreement 2017-2022. This remuneration excludes qualification allowances and any overtime pay, which are reimbursed separately on an ad hoc basis, as the need arises.
