Data Governance Specialist

Our client, operating in financial services is looking for a Data Governance Specialist to join their team.

 In this role, you will play a pivotal part in supporting the roll-out of Data Management initiatives across the organization, ensuring the effective governance and management of data assets.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement data governance policies, procedures, and standards, in alignment with guidance from senior team members.
• Establish and manage data stewardship practices, including the development of operational data governance strategies, coordinating activities across the business, and supporting business data stewards.
• Ensure data governance initiatives are aligned with organizational objectives and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor and report on the bank's compliance with the full data lifecycle as outlined in the data governance framework, including tracking data quality metrics to identify areas requiring remediation.
• Ensure business data stewards complete assigned tasks and that shared objectives with the Data Office are clearly understood.
• Identify critical data elements to be governed under the data governance policy, prioritizing them based on the business’s strategic objectives, regulatory requirements, and financial considerations.
• Manage data domains within the data catalog, including the discovery and input of metadata such as data owners, data domain mappings, and data definitions.
• Utilize a data catalog tool to assist the business in identifying critical data usage, managing metadata input, and guiding data stewards in making accurate inputs and completing tasks.
• Identify and manage training needs across various units within the bank, including training for data stewards and individuals responsible for managing data.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across data domains to plan for policy compliance and remediation actions, including setting up projects and operational workstreams.
• Work with stakeholders in branches, risk, finance, and IT functions to create strategic remediation plans for addressing data issues.
• Collaborate with data engineers within the Data Office to define data quality metrics, as agreed with data owners, and manage the presentation of these metrics to enable data owners to effectively oversee their data.
• Work with data management tools and technologies to implement governance solutions.
• Provide recommendations for new tools to enhance data governance capabilities.

• Proficiency in SQL, Python, or other relevant programming languages.

• MQF Level 6 Degree in a related field.
• A minimum of 6 years of experience in Information Management, with at least 4 years in a Data Management/Governance environment, including demonstrable successful project work in both business and Information Technology sectors.
• Proven experience working with senior stakeholders across the organization.
• Hands-on experience with data catalog tools and metadata management.
• Relevant certifications or courses in data management, such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Data Governance and Stewardship Professional (DGSP), or certifications in data privacy and compliance (e.g., CIPP, CIPM).
