General Manager (Construction)

Our client is an esteemed name in the construction industry in the Maltese islands. As they are growing, they would like to engage a General Manager (Projects) who will take care of their construction projects and lead a number of departments. This role reports directly into the Group CEO.

The Role

• Report directly to the Group CEO and provide regular operational, financial, and strategic performance updates.
• Lead and manage the overall operations and performance of the construction business across a number of departments including Civil Works and major projects
• Develop and execute business strategies to achieve operational excellence, sustainable growth, and profitability within the construction sector.
• Oversee all construction and property projects to ensure safe, high-quality, on-time, and on-budget delivery.
• Monitor and improve commercial performance through effective cost control, budgeting, forecasting, tendering, and contract management.
• Support business development activities by identifying new opportunities, strengthening market presence, and maintaining client relationships.
• Manage and mentor department heads and senior teams to drive accountability, collaboration, and high performance across the organization.
• Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, construction regulations, health and safety standards, and company governance policies.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and joint venture partners.
• Identify and manage operational and commercial risks while promoting continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Business, or a related field (MBA is considered an advantage).
• Proven extensive experience within the construction industry, including senior leadership and project management roles.
• Strong commercial, operational, and financial management experience with knowledge of contracts, risk management, and project delivery.
• Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and strategic planning skills with a hands-on and results-driven approach.
