System Administrator

Job Description
Aqubix Ltd in Malta is looking to recruit a System Administrator to join their team on a full-time basis. 

Job Role: 
The ideal candidate will maintain, upgrade and manage their software, both on internal infrastructure, and on those of external customers. The System Administrator's responsibilities include troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking issues as well as documenting the various technical and installation processes of the various environments. Resourcefulness is a necessary skill in this role. The ideal candidate should be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly, research solutions in their own capacity until the problem is resolved, and being able to troubleshoot issues that have never been addressed before. One should also have the patience to communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and clients.

Responsibilities of the System Administrator:

• Install and upgrade software solutions developed by Aqubix on customers’ infrastructure, as scheduled by the Project Manager;
• Manage network components and technology tools;
• Set up accounts and workstations;
• Monitor server performance and maintain systems according to requirements;
• Troubleshoot issues and outages;
• Ensure security through access controls, backups, and firewalls;
• Generate and maintain technical documentation;
• Upgrade systems and processes as required for enhanced functionality and security issue resolution;
• Administer infrastructure, including firewalls, databases, malware protection software, and other processes;
• Review application logs;
• Ensuring data is stored securely and backed up regularly;
• Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, network, and system issues when they arise;
• Research and recommend new approaches to improve system performance;
• Provide technical support when requested.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a System Administrator or similar role;
• Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms, especially Windows server;
• Experience with databases, particularly MySQL, and familiarity with SQL and database operations;
• Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery;
• Ability to respond to help desk requests, including after hours, if the need arises;
• Patient and professional demeanor, with a can-do attitude;
• Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude;
• Professional certification (e.g MCSA or MCSE) is a plus;
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in ICT or similar would be preferred;
• Ability to communicate professionally, both orally and written;
• Ability to work independently and with a team with minimal supervision.
