American University of Malta in Malta is looking to recruit a University Librarian to join its team on a full-time basis. Responsibilities:
Heading the library and effectively managing library staff
Heading the Library committee which oversees new acquisitions, and new or updates to library policies
Arranging the purchase of books, ebooks, software resources, and other learning materials directly related to the courses being offered by our institution
Overseeing the acquisition and timely renewal of subscriptions to research-related library resources, ensuring access to up-to-date and relevant materials for our faculty and students
Arranging library-related workshops and training
Participating in student orientations related to Library use
Overseeing the submission of theses and projects submitted by students to the Library, including being the gatekeeper for integrity checks using Turnitin
Participating in the University Academic Integrity committee (including possibly as chair)
Participating as a member of the University Academic Council.
Requirements:
Educational Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS) or Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from a European or an American accredited program
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a library setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role
- Experience with library acquisitions and collection development
- Experience managing staff and running a team
- Experience with digital libraries, database searching, internet literacy, and information retrieval
- Experience with academic integrity issues, including the use of plagiarism detection software like Turnitin
- Previous involvement in a university or academic council is beneficial
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Knowledge of library operations and administration
- Proficiency in library automation systems and databases
- Understanding of library budget management and procurement
- Familiarity with academic integrity policies and procedures
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency in English
- Proficiency in information technology, and familiarity with the latest trends in library science, such as digital archiving and electronic resources management.
