General Scope and Purpose of Position

We are currently looking for a Psychology Assistant to join our Early Intervention Programme (age group - 3-5 years) on a Full-Time basis. The Psychology Assistant will work under the guidance of a warranted Psychologist to support the delivery of psychological services. This role involves assisting with psychological assessments and interventions, providing support to service users, maintaining accurate records, and performing necessary administrative tasks, all as deemed appropriate by the Psychologist. The position is essential to ensuring the efficient operation of psychological services and the delivery of high-quality care to service users and their families.

Main duties & responsibilities

Under supervision, the Psychology Assistant will support Psychologists in the following key activities and responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the smooth running of the psychology department in providing services for children with Autism and their families, in accordance with the service agreement.
  • Assisting in the assessment of new clients using appropriate psychological assessment methods and tools to contribute to the multidisciplinary team’s decisions regarding intervention goals for each client.
  • Following clients' progress and assisting with periodic reassessments as needed to aid in the monitoring, evaluation, and modification of interventions.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team case conferences to collaborate with families and other staff in the development of the Individual Family Services Plans (IFSPs) and the Individual Educational Programmes (IEPs).
  • Drawing up professional reports for each client prior to the case conference and presenting such reports within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Working in partnership with families and other staff to develop a comprehensive understanding of each client’s needs for the development of their potential and for the creation of an inclusive environment in homes, schools, and the community.
  • Maintaining accurate records of services provided and carrying out administrative tasks as required to support the efficient functioning of the department.
  • At all times, abiding by the Psychology Professional Code of Conduct and Ethics as outlined by the Malta Psychology Profession Board (MPPB).

Role Requirements

The ideal candidate should be in possession of the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Honours)  qualification (equivalent to a  minimum of MQF Level 6) in Psychology.
  • A minimum of 1-year post graduation experience, ideally within the disability field (especially ASD, challenging behavior etc.)
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Highly proficient in English language (both spoken & written).

Prior to being recruited and throughout the duration of employment, the selected candidates need to satisfy the requirements of the Protection of Minors Act (POMA) together with those of immunization.
