Job Summary:

Mechanical Installers assist in the overall installation of fire prevention and firefighting systems in accordance with client requirements and the available technical drawings in-hand. These works are carried out through knowledge of plumbing and pipe fitting tech-niques, generally applicable in commercial, industrial and/or construction sites. 

Plumbing & Pipe Fitting duties:

  • Assemble and install a variety of industrial metal/steel pipes, tubes and fit-tings at client premises; 
  • Prepare the necessary openings through measuring, cutting and drilling in structure to allow for the securing of pipes with brackets, clamps and hang-ers;
  • Connect pipes using threaded, grooved or cemented joints, allowing for the installation of firefighting equipment as per drawings;
  • Follow technical and engineering drawings whilst ensuring that works are in line with best practice, safety standards and regulations and internal expert advice; 

Fire Door Fitting duties:

  • Support with the commissioning, repair or general service of fire doors at client premises; 
  • Follow frame specifications and internal guidance to ensure correct installa-tion of fire-doors;
  • Assemble fire-doors, frameworks and other fixtures required using the nec-essary machines or tools;   

General Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the timely installation and planned/reactive maintenance of Mechanical equipment including Fire Suppression systems and Wet firefighting systems such as sprinkler systems, fire pumps, dry risers and fire doors; 
  • Perform system testing for leaks using testing equipment;
  • Load/unloading trucks manually or with motorized lifts; 
  • Maintain a clean job site that could include sweeping, picking up loose materials and organizing work area and equipment; 
  • Assist with providing solutions to troubleshooting – including the diagnosing of malfunctions and carrying out repairs to rectify problems;
  • Participate in the Health, Safety and risk programs including risk assessment of planned and reactive maintenance work activities, whilst also ensuring compli-ance to internal H&S procedures; 
  • Building positive relationships with customers and third parties, ensuring an ex-cellent customer care approach whilst on site;
  • Manage the requisition of tools, parts and consumables; 
  • Maintain and update records of works on a daily basis; 

Skills, Qualifications & Attributes:

• Relevant industry qualifications and/or experience;

• Working knowledge of wet, dry, water mist and foam systems;

• Ability to use basic hand tools, including power tools and working at heights;

• Be able to read and understand technical drawings and datasheets; 

• A valid Driving License; 

• Exposure to moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions.

• Moderate noise level.

• Physical activity for prolonged periods.

• Ability to push and pull and carry objects up to 25 kg.
