Marine Technician

Main Purpose of Job:

• To deliver customer satisfaction at all times in the service and repair of motor and electrical vehicles of all types
• To carry out servicing and repairs in a safe and economical manner
• To employ such knowledge and skills as may be required to test vehicles and diagnose faults
• To maintain the integrity of all product information

Individual Key Objectives:

• Ensure repairs are carried out according to manufacturer’s procedures and in a safe and responsible manner
• Road test vehicle and/or machinery when required, subject to licence restrictions
• Ensure repairs are carried out in accordance with manufacturer standard times
• To note and report all components, materials and consumables used
• To be able to diagnose faults and be able to read schematics, electrical diagrams and manufacturers manuals.
• To be responsible for the safe deposit and upkeep of any documents in possession in a proper manner
• Ensure vehicles and/or machinery are thoroughly examined and report verbally and in writing the general condition of vehicles and/or machinery with emphasis on customer safety
• Comply with warranty procedures during repairs ensure warranty displaced material returned on completion of a repair
• Assist with good workshop and dealership housekeeping at all times
• Be able to use the specialised tools provided effectively and ensure optimum use and best safe practices
• Ensure that the company time recording procedures are complied with
• Ensure job cards write ups are completed accurately and in a timely manner
• Ensure that service sheets are completed as per manufacturer/customer instructions
• Ensure that all vehicle defects are reported to the workshop supervisor
• Ensure all documents are signed in accordance with requirements
• Any other duties commensurate with the level of this post, as may be assigned from time to time

Detailed Responsibilities:

• Support the development of any young trainees and apprentices as may be required from time to time under the supervision of the repair and maintenance manager
• Ensure that the workshop facilities, equipment and tools are kept clean, tidy and maintained, reflecting the image of an efficient dealership
• To have a flexible approach and be ready to work irregular working hours as may be the need and required
• Support the development of character, skills, attitude and superior individual and team performance
• Present a businesslike and professional image at all times
• To attend periodic training sessions on CAT products both locally and overseas

Skills:

• Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing in Maltese and English, in order to be able to       
• report adequately to superiors and to form good relations. 
• Ability to work effectively in a team, including the ability to respond to the needs of team members and provide them with assistance when and as required.
• To be able to work under pressure and with minimal supervision.
• To be open and honest at all times
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and to work with third parties
• To be in a possession of a valid driving licence as required by Transport Authority
• To have a flexible approach to work commitments at all times
• Be in possession of a technician diploma or equivalent accredited at level 4 and be familiar with online support system (SIS)
• Good working knowledge of computers and conversant with computer applications

Limits of Authority:

• No purchasing authority
• All parts and materials drawn from the parts department must be properly booked against an official job card
• No additional parts to be ordered without the approval of the Aftersales Manager

• No financial authority: Reference to line manager at all times
