About Financial Stability:
The Financial Stability function is responsible for identifying and assessing risks which have the potential to spread within the financial sector and the real economy (systemic risks). Through its own macroprudential research and analysis of the financial sector, which covers the banking, insurance and securities sectors, the function contributes to the formulation of policies aimed at mitigating identified risk.

The Intelligence and Research team within the function is responsible for the statistical capabilities of the function, and to carry out quantitative and qualitative research and analysis to assess the economic and external factors, structural shifts and market practices that may influence the development of the financial services sector and to evaluate the impact of these developments and of any measures and initiatives proposed to address them.

The Role
As a Senior Manager (Research and Analysis) within the Intelligence and Research team, you will be assigned to carry out work which will include the following duties:

  • Contributing actively to the formulation and execution of the function’s work plan
  • Researching and developing data models to support the MFSA strategic priority areas with a focus on new business models and innovation, particularly in areas such as sustainable finance, digital transformation and AI
  • Carrying out qualitative and quantitative market-wide research
  • Performing impact assessments and cost-benefit analysis to evaluate the implications of regulatory changes
  • Planning, coordination, and collection of statistical capabilities of the function
  • Preparing analytical reports/technical papers, both for internal and publication purposes
  • Attending and contributing in technical meetings within the MFSA as well as at national and European level
  • Managing, coaching, and training members of the assigned team(s) within the function
  • Undertaking other tasks/duties, including ad-hoc studies, as directed by line management.

About You:
We are looking for candidates with strong academic background in statistics, mathematics, banking and finance, economics or other relevant studies at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level, and a minimum of eight (8) years experience in a related area. 

A postgraduate degree in any of the areas mentioned above would be considered an asset.

Candidates with experience working with business intelligence tools, such as MS PowerBI, and who have knowledge of programming languages and data analysis packages, such as R, Python or SQL, will be considered as an asset.

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications, but you have at least fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in a similar senior role, we would still be interested in speaking with you. 

The selected candidate is expected to be a confident individual who feels at ease working in a multidisciplinary environment, is flexible, proactive, dynamic, has the ability to prioritise tasks, has a critical and analytical mindset and has a high attention to detail even when under time pressure. 

The individual is also required to demonstrate good research and have excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
