Role Overview
This role sits within the Financial Crime Compliance function and focuses on monitoring and evaluating adherence to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing obligations. The successful candidate will contribute to regulatory oversight activities by assessing licensed operators, reviewing compliance frameworks, and supporting enforcement through structured examinations and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Liaison: Engage with licensed operators, internal teams, and external authorities to address matters relating to financial crime compliance and ensure alignment with regulatory expectations.
  • Documentation Review: Assess key compliance materials, including risk frameworks, onboarding standards, and internal control policies, to evaluate their adequacy and effectiveness.
  • Compliance Examinations: Conduct detailed reviews and inspections of licensed entities to determine adherence to applicable AML/CFT requirements, both independently and in collaboration with relevant authorities.
  • Reporting and Findings: Prepare structured and insightful reports outlining observations, risks, and recommendations arising from compliance reviews.
  • File Management: Maintain well-organised and compliant records of examinations in line with internal documentation standards and policies.
  • Fit and Proper Assessments: Evaluate the competence and suitability of nominated compliance officers within licensed entities, ensuring they meet the expected regulatory standards.
  • Additional Duties: Support the wider team with ad hoc tasks and responsibilities as required within a dynamic regulatory environment.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes

  • Education: A Degree (MQF Level 6 or equivalent) is required; candidates holding an MQF Level 5 qualification will also be considered if supported by relevant experience.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years’ experience within a similar compliance, regulatory, or financial crime-related role.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to present complex findings clearly and effectively, both in written reports and verbal discussions.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong collaboration skills with the ability to build professional relationships across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Technical Skills: Solid understanding of AML/CFT legislation and regulatory frameworks within Malta and the European Union.
  • Organisation: Capable of managing multiple assignments, maintaining structured documentation, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
  • Self-Motivated: Demonstrates accountability, initiative, and a proactive approach to achieving targets and maintaining high standards of work.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify risks, interpret data, and propose practical solutions.
