Our client is a fast-growing Corporate Service Provider, and they are seeking to add a Legal Advisor - Regulatory & Compliance to their team.

The Advisor - Legal will form an integral part of the Legal Team and will work closely with the managers within the Legal & Regulatory Department. The role focuses on providing practical legal and regulatory support to clients, with particular emphasis on fintech and digital asset businesses, and supporting them through licensing and compliance processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in regulated industries (namely, fintech and digital assets) and will be capable of managing a portfolio of clients while supporting licensing, regulatory and compliance matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal and regulatory support to clients, particularly within the iGaming, fintech and technology industry, including support throughout licensing and authorization processes, and ongoing regulatory compliance advisory with the standards, rules and regulations as set by the Malta Gaming Authority, Malta Financial Services Authority and other relevant authorities.
  • Assist clients throughout their operational lifecycle by preparing legal documentation, regulatory submissions, and coordinating with regulatory bodies.
  • Act as a key liaison between clients and authorities, clients and their counterparties and handling queries and facilitating effective communication in the best interest of clients.
  • Support internal legal, regulatory, and corporate teams in meeting ongoing compliance obligations and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to the planning, implementation, and management of compliance and regulatory activities in line with applicable laws and regulatory frameworks.
  • Monitor and interpret legal and regulatory developments, advising clients on potential impacts and necessary actions.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal or regulatory documents.
  • Provide legal support for corporate transactions, structuring and restructuring projects.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across legal, regulatory, and corporate services on area specific matters.
  • Manage a portfolio of clients, ensuring high-quality service delivery and building strong, long-term relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Minimum four (4) years of post-qualification experience in a similar role;
  • Holds a Master of Advocacy (M.Adv) or Doctor of Laws (LL.D) or equivalent;
  • Has a valid warrant to practice law in Malta;
  • Demonstrates interest and experience in regulated industries;
  • Experience with MFSA licensing and regulatory frameworks would be considered an asset;
  • Exposure to AML/CFT compliance management processes would also be considered beneficial;
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Ability to manage workload independently while collaborating effectively within a team;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard office tools.
