Duties & Responsibilities

The Career Development Manager designs and manages programs to support career growth, skill enhancement, and professional development. This role aligns initiatives with company strategic goals, employee aspirations, and market demands, while supporting the HR function as required. The ideal candidate must have a solid training background and strong leadership and communication skills.

Your role at a glance:

Strategic Leadership

  • Assist in developing and implementing HR strategies aligned with the Bank’s overall goals and strategic objectives. 
  • Provide guidance to senior management on career development matters. 

Program Development & Management

  • Design and implement career development and upskilling programs, workshops that align to the Bank's strategic goals. 
  • Conduct ongoing liaison with the various Heads of Department to identify and address skill gaps within the organisation.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of development programs and make necessary adjustments by monitoring and reviewing the progress of trainees. 
  • Develop effective induction programs for new staff and apprentices. 
  • Stay updated with the latest training trends and technologies. 
  • Assist with the setting up of training annual budgets and monitor them. 
  • Ensure that statutory training requirements are strictly adhered to.

HR Management

  • Assist with the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures that comply with legal requirements and promote a positive work environment. 
  • Assist with managing employee relations, including handling of grievances, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution. 
  • Assist with the performance management exercise and provide guidance and feedback to employees and managers as required. 
  • Assist with exit interviews and one to one meetings, analyse the relative outcome, and act on any feedback/escalate as necessary. 

Talent Acquisition and Retention

  • Assist with the recruitment process by creating retention programs to attract and retain talent, interviewing and assist in effective onboarding. 
  • Promote a positive work environment. 
  • Maintain an ongoing liaison with different Heads of Department/Units/Line Managers and employees. 

Compensation and Benefits

  • Assist with the managing of compensation structures, benefits, and incentives. 

Employee Support

  • Provide and manage one-on-one career coaching and mentoring sessions to employees.
  • Facilitate discussions on career transitions, growth opportunities, and leadership development.

Market Research & Trends

  • Stay updated on industry trends, skill demands, and emerging career opportunities.
  • Advise leadership on talent market trends and workforce development strategies.

Competencies & Experience

  • The potential candidate should be reliable and trustworthy, well-organised with a disposition to learn and have a team-oriented approach. 
What you bring:
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in HR Management and Career Development, with particular focus on designing, delivering and coordinating training programmes, preferably within the financial services industry. 
  • Strong knowledge of career development practices and strategies.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills.
  • A high level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with employees at all levels. 
  • Good knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Maltese and English. 
  • A lifelong learning approach with a proactive and flexible approach to work.
  • Strong knowledge of HR policies, local labour laws, and best practices. 

A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Training, Organisational Development, Occupational Psychology, or related field will be considered as an asset. It is also considered an asset to have knowledge of UK HR related legislative framework and employment practices.
