It plays an important role in supporting the local agricultural community while ensuring a reliable supply of everyday consumer products across the Maltese Islands.

Role Overview
The Health, Safety & Environment Executive will play a key role in supporting the implementation and maintenance of Environmental, Health & Safety standards across the site. Working closely with the Head of Operations and external specialists, the role ensures that compliance requirements are met while promoting a strong safety culture. The position spans multiple operational areas including inspections, environmental controls, emergency preparedness, waste coordination, fleet compliance, contractor oversight, and site security. The successful candidate will also contribute to training initiatives, record management, and continuous improvement activities aimed at enhancing workplace safety and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • EHS Compliance: Assist in the coordination and application of health, safety, and environmental procedures across the site, ensuring alignment with legal and regulatory requirements. Conduct routine inspections, audits, and basic risk evaluations across operational areas, and follow up on corrective actions. Liaise with external consultants and regulatory bodies to support environmental permits and compliance obligations. Act as a point of contact for EHS matters across departments.
  • Fire Safety, First Aid & Emergency Preparedness: Support the upkeep and monitoring of fire prevention systems, evacuation routes, and emergency equipment. Ensure first aid provisions are properly maintained and available. Assist in the organisation and execution of emergency drills and preparedness exercises.
  • Waste & Environmental Management: Oversee day-to-day waste handling practices, including segregation, storage, and disposal in accordance with regulations. Coordinate with approved contractors for waste collection and recycling activities, ensuring accurate documentation. Support environmental monitoring activities and reporting of incidents such as spills or anomalies.
  • Housekeeping & Site Maintenance: Promote and maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation across all work areas. Coordinate external cleaning and grounds upkeep services, including vegetation control where required.
  • Fleet & Equipment Compliance: Support compliance processes relating to company vehicles and regulated equipment, including inspections, certifications, insurance, and driver authorisations.
  • Contractor Management & Security: Assist in onboarding and monitoring contractors to ensure adherence to site safety requirements and permit-to-work procedures. Support CCTV oversight and contribute to incident investigations when required.
  • Incident Reporting & Documentation: Record and track workplace incidents, near misses, environmental issues, and safety observations. Maintain accurate and organised documentation relating to inspections, audits, training, and compliance activities.
  • Training & Continuous Improvement: Assist in delivering safety and environmental awareness sessions. Contribute to ongoing improvements in workplace safety systems, procedures, and overall site performance.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

  • Education: Diploma or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, or currently working towards one.
  • Experience: 1–2 years in a health & safety support role, ideally within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly with internal teams, external consultants, and contractors.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to collaborate across departments and engage effectively with different stakeholders.
  • Technical Skills: Working knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with compliance documentation and reporting tools.
  • Organisation: Strong ability to manage records, follow procedures, and maintain accurate documentation across multiple areas.
  • Self-Motivated: Proactive approach with a willingness to take initiative and support ongoing improvements.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues, escalate appropriately, and support practical solutions in a timely manner.
