Malta International Airport plc is looking for dynamic individuals who are passionate about working with people within an Airport environment, and are willing to continuously learn, develop, and be part of a high-performance culture. This vacancy has arisen within the Health & Safety Department.

Purpose of Position

To support the development and continuous improvement of the organization’s compliance and assurance framework by strengthening Health and Safety Management Systems, the internal audit programme, and governance structures in line with ISO 45001 and ISO 45003. The role focuses on embedding effective systems, controls, and Safe Systems of Work across the organization, ensuring consistent application and performance across both Infrastructure Safety and Operational Safety pillars.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organization’s Health and Safety Management Systems, ensuring they are robust, effective, and aligned with international standards.
  • Contribute to the evaluation, selection, implementation, and ongoing optimization of systems, ensuring effective rollout, user adoption, and performance monitoring across the organization.
  • Lead and manage the internal health and safety audit programme, applying a structured, risk-based approach to assess compliance across all departments.
  • Conduct audits of Health and Safety Management Systems, identify non-conformities, and ensure timely implementation and closure of corrective actions
  • Ensure Health and Safety Management Systems are effectively embedded across Infrastructure Safety and Operational Safety, with regular review and continuous enhancement
  • Support the configuration, development, and implementation of Safe Systems of Work, ensuring they are risk-based, effectively integrated within Health and Safety Management Systems, and consistently applied across Infrastructure Safety and Operational Safety.
  • Contribute to risk management activities, including risk assessments, monitoring of high-risk operations, and participation in incident investigations, including psychosocial risk considerations in line with ISO 45003
  • Support training, awareness initiatives, and the promotion of a proactive safety culture across the organization
  • Utilize data analysis, reporting, and performance monitoring to drive continuous improvement and support decision-making.

Requirements

  • A degree in Business Management, Quality Management, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline
  • Professional certification in auditing or management systems (e.g. ISO Lead Auditor) is highly desirable
  • Proven experience in internal auditing, compliance assurance, or management systems
  • Strong understanding of management system frameworks, particularly ISO 45001; familiarity with other ISO standards (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 14001) is an advantage
  • Experience in implementing, maintaining, or improving management systems, including monitoring effectiveness and driving continuous improvement
  • Ability to evaluate systems, identify gaps, and support effective implementation and adoption
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and identify trends
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization
  • High level of attention to detail, with a structured and methodical approach to work
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with audit/compliance systems or digital platforms is an advantage
