Role Overview
The General Manager will take full ownership of the Company’s operations in Malta, driving commercial success, operational efficiency, and team performance. This role requires a commercially minded leader who can shape strategy, build local structures, and ensure effective execution across sales, distribution, retail development, and partner engagement. The position is highly hands-on and central to the successful launch and scaling of an international FMCG brand in the local market.

Key Responsibilities

  • General Management: Oversee the Malta operation, ensuring all commercial, operational, logistical, and people-related activities are aligned with strategic objectives and delivered effectively.
  • Commercial Strategy: Design and implement the local growth strategy, set performance targets, track KPIs, and lead initiatives that drive sustainable revenue and market expansion.
  • Market Entry & Development: Lead the introduction and positioning of the product locally, identifying growth opportunities, strengthening brand visibility, and improving market reach and penetration.
  • Distribution Oversight: Manage end-to-end supply and distribution processes, ensuring efficient stock handling, warehouse coordination, compliance adherence, and consistent product availability.
  • Retail Expansion: Identify and support opportunities for physical retail presence, contributing to store planning, operational setup, and ongoing performance optimisation.
  • Key Account & Partner Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with distributors, retail partners, and commercial stakeholders while ensuring effective agreements, execution standards, and in-store performance.
  • Brand & Supplier Coordination: Act as the main local liaison with international brand owners and suppliers, ensuring alignment on commercial plans, operational expectations, and brand standards.
  • Sales Performance Management: Monitor performance across all channels, evaluate results against targets, and implement corrective actions to improve outcomes and return on investment.
  • Operational Coordination: Ensure smooth coordination between logistics, compliance, inventory flow, and customer-facing operations to support consistent business delivery.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, lead, and develop the local team, setting clear expectations, fostering accountability, and promoting a strong performance-driven culture.
  • Reporting & Governance: Provide structured reporting to senior leadership, including commercial updates, operational insights, market intelligence, and strategic recommendations.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Marketing, Finance, or a related discipline is required.
  • Experience: At least five years of experience in commercial leadership, business development, operations, or general management, ideally within FMCG, retail, distribution, or product launch environments.
  • Language Skills: Strong command of English is essential. Knowledge of Maltese will be considered an advantage.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders, negotiate effectively, and present ideas clearly and confidently.
  • Interpersonal Skills: A collaborative and approachable leadership style with the ability to build strong internal and external working relationships.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office tools, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Familiarity with CRM systems or reporting/BI tools will be considered an asset.
  • Organisation: Strong planning and coordination abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Self-Motivated: A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to adapt quickly, take initiative, and drive results independently.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical thinking with the ability to assess challenges, identify practical solutions, and make sound business decisions.
