About the Role

If you're an experienced Financial Controller with the drive and ambition to grow into a CFO role within 6 to 12 months, this is the role for you. You will start by building a solid financial foundation, after which the focus shifts to finance leadership, strategic planning, and stakeholder management. The more hands-on tasks will then be transferred to a successor controller.

We are looking for an analytically strong, hands-on Financial Controller who takes ownership of the financial operation: data quality, the setup of control processes, and the professionalisation of finance within a regulated casino and sportsbook environment.

The organisation wants to develop finance further towards a demonstrably audit-ready level. Think tighter processes, reliable management information, structural controls, and a clean month-end close. This role is designed to make that happen.

What You Will Do

Financial control and month-end close

- Set up and execute monthly and quarterly closings

- Review and follow up on the work of the bookkeeper

- Control general ledger, balance sheet positions, accruals, prepayments, and intercompany accounts

- Prepare reports for the CFO, CEO, and management

- Reconcile administration, bank, PSPs, platform providers, and internal systems

PSP, platform, and bank controls

- Set up and perform monthly PSP checks, including Adyen

- Reconciliation controls between payment flows, back-office data, and financial records

- Analysis of differences, timing differences, chargebacks, fees, and settlements

- Periodic analysis of provider costs, volumes, margins, and variances

Budget monitoring, forecasting, and business control

- Monthly review of actuals versus budget and forecast

- Monitor whether budget holders stay within their budgets

- Specifically control marketing budgets and affiliate spend

- Identify and follow up on variances between forecast and actual business developments

- Provide input for rolling forecast, budget process, and cash flow planning

Internal controls and compliance

- Set up an internal control framework for finance

- Document controls, review points, and sign-offs

- Review invoices, costs, contracts, payment flows, and authorisations

- Support audits, annual accounts, VAT, tax, and regulatory obligations

- Collaborate with accountants, auditors, tax advisors, and external consultants

Management reporting and data ownership

- Set up monthly management reports

- Verify reported figures against actuals

- Provide insight into revenue, margin, costs, cash flow, marketing spend, and platform costs

- Structure finance dashboards and reporting formats

- Translate figures into concrete management insights

What You Bring

- Minimum 3 to 4 years of experience as a financial controller, business controller, or senior finance professional

- Demonstrable knowledge of month-end closings, reporting, cash flow, budgeting, and internal controls

- Strong in data analysis and reconciliation controls

- Critical, precise, and not afraid to ask questions

- Ownership mentality: you do not wait for someone else to solve a problem

- Comfortable in a dynamic environment where not everything is perfectly set up yet

- Affinity with regulated sectors such as gaming, fintech, payments, e-commerce, or platform businesses

- Fluent in Dutch, both written and spoken

- Living in Malta or willing to relocate to Malta in the short term

- Ambition to grow towards CFO level

Growth Path

The role starts as Financial Controller with broad responsibility. After approximately 6 to 12 months, the focus shifts from hands-on financial control to finance leadership, strategic planning, stakeholder management, budget and forecast processes, investor and M&A support, and managing the bookkeeping function and future finance hires.
