The Role:
You will direct the mechanical and engineering health of our fleet — propulsion, hydraulics, deck machinery, and auxiliary systems. Working alongside the Fleet Technical Manager , your focus is the physical condition and reliability of the vessels.
Key Responsibilities:
– Own the mechanical condition of engines, gearboxes, hydraulics, and deck equipment fleet-wide.
– Diagnose faults and direct workshops, contractors, and shipyards on the right repair approach.
– Plan and prioritise preventive and corrective maintenance across a varied fleet.
– Specify spare parts and support procurement with technical requirements.
– Monitor reliability trends and lead root-cause investigations after failures.
– Support vessel masters with remote and on-site troubleshooting.
– Maintain mechanical records and contribute to the maintenance budget.
What we are looking for:
Qualifications & Experience:
– A Marine Engineering qualification or equivalent mechanical trade background.
– 5+ years in marine engineering, mechanical superintendent, or workshop supervision.
– Proven diagnostic track record on diesel engines, hydraulics, and deck machinery.
– Experience with small-to-medium fishing or commercial vessel fleets preferred.
– Fishing or aquaculture industry background would be considered advantageous.
Skills & Attributes:
– Detail oriented, sets high workmanship standards and strives to achieve results.
– Communicates clearly with crew, suppliers, and senior management.
– Comfortable travelling across Malta and the Mediterranean region.
– English essential; Maltese or Italian an advantage.
– CMMS experience would be beneficial, a valid driving licence required.
