PTL Limited is seeking to recruit a Database & Middleware Administrator to join its Database & Middleware Services Team. This role is suited to a motivated professional with hands-on technical ability who is looking to build and strengthen their experience across database and middleware platforms within enterprise environments.
THE POSITION
Based in Malta and working under the guidance of Solutions Architects and senior engineers, the Database & Middleware Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, monitoring, and maintenance of database and middleware platforms across client and internal environments.
This is a hands-on role covering the full lifecycle of database and middleware services, including provisioning, performance monitoring and tuning, backup and recovery, and support for high availability and disaster recovery solutions. The role also involves troubleshooting incidents, ensuring systems remain secure, available, and performant in line with defined service levels and best practices.
Operating within a managed services environment, the position requires a structured and methodical approach, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining accurate documentation. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with systems, network, security, and service desk teams, while contributing to service delivery across multiple client environments and supporting ongoing improvements.
Participation in an on-call support rota is required.

THE REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will hold an MQF Level 6 qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or demonstrate equivalent practical experience, together with a minimum of 2 years of experience in database and/or middleware administration.
Candidates should have practical experience with at least one major relational database platform such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or IBM DB2, including installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades. A solid understanding of database performance monitoring and tuning, as well as backup, restore, and recovery processes, is required, together with knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery concepts.
A good working knowledge of SQL scripting and query writing is expected, along with experience or exposure to middleware technologies such as IBM WebSphere, IBM MQ, Cognos, or similar platforms. Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, or equivalent is also required.
Exposure to cloud-based database platforms such as Azure SQL or AWS RDS is considered an advantage, as are basic scripting or automation skills. Experience working in a managed services or multi-client environment and familiarity with IT service management processes will be considered beneficial.
Relevant certifications are considered an asset. A clean police conduct is required.
