Inspire Foundation in Malta is currently looking to recruit a Speech & Language Pathologist to join their team on a full-time basis.

About our STEP Intensive Early Intervention programme:
Our Structured Training and Education Programme (STEP) is a specialised programme for children with difficulties on the autism spectrum. At STEP, highly individualised, specialised programmes are delivered through a multi-disciplinary team made up of tutors who are supported by speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and psychologists.

General scope and purpose of position:
Our Speech & Language Pathologists shall implement strategies and provide specialist assessments and interventions for our clients. This will also include constant monitoring and training of the direct staff within the department which will involve the implementation of the SLP treatment plan as well as attending client reviews. 

Duties & Responsibilities
The Therapy Service is made up of a multidisciplinary team that provides therapeutic services for all clients registered to Inspire. The service has been set up to:

  • Undertake comprehensive assessments and ensure the appropriate therapeutic services are provided to our clients
  • Provide appropriate physical, psychological and social rehabilitation through individual and group therapy sessions
  • Support our clients with a more severe diagnosis who are unable to access the foundation by carrying out domiciliary services
  • Work in conjunction with clients, carers and voluntary organisations to develop a resource of information, advice & self-management techniques
  • Liaise and refer with other support agencies with regard to discharged clients ensuring continuity of care.

Clinical Duties

  • Responsible for delivery of Speech & Language Pathology within the programme
  • Manage a caseload of clients with complex needs using specialized skills related to speech and language, including client-based and evidence-based principles to assess, implement and evaluate interventions
  • Monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for clients with multiple needs in order to measure progress & ensure effectiveness
  • Undertake therapeutic moving and handling of clients and equipment within the clinical and non-clinical setting
  • Work with clients their relatives and carers throughout socially distressing situations
  • Supervise inexperienced junior staff, and students following placements as required.

Communication

  • Establish and maintain communication networks with clients & other health workers & agencies
  • Demonstrate skills in communicating sensitive & contentious information to clients & carers as appropriate
  • To promote awareness of the role of Speech & Language Pathology within the team
  • Maintain professional & adequate reporting systems in both verbal and written documentation form.

Professional Ethics

  • Comply with the foundations Code of Ethics & Professional Conduct as well as national & local policies
  • Respect the individuality, values, and cultural & religious diversity of clients & contribute to the provision of service sensitive to these needs
  • Demonstrate ability to reflect on ethical issues  & to provide guidance to junior staff as necessary.

Training staff & students

  • Contribute to the induction & training of students & other staff both internally and externally
  • Provide specialist advice to SLP colleagues in other clinical areas, clients and carers as required
  • Responsible for supervision & written assessment of Speech & Language Pathology students on practice placements with Inspire.


Qualification & Requirements
The ideal candidate shall possess the following:

  • Degree qualification or MQF Level 6 certification in Speech & Language Pathology
  • Registration with the Council for the Professions Complimentary to Medicine [CPCM]
  • Previous experience in a similar role and field.
