The British High Commission (BHC) in Malta is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Local Liaison Assistant (LLO).

 

Main purpose of job:

The National Crime Agency (NCA) Local Liaison Assistant will work closely with the NCA International Liaison Officer (ILO) and colleagues from across the British High Commission in support of crime and justice cooperation between the UK and Malta.

The post holder will provide support and analytical assistance in respect of Serious Organised Crime matters, and leadership for migration with particular focus on Organised Immigration Crime. 

In addition, the role will provide general and administrative support to the work of NCA in Malta and regionally.

 

Roles and responsibilities:

Leading the British High Commission response to all serious organised crime issues, in particular Organised Immigration Crime.

Provide policy advice and support to the Political Team on migration matters, drawing on established relations with Maltese partners.

Working with British High Commission stakeholders in support of wider Crime and Justice Objectives.

Providing analytical support to the ILO on criminal justice trends and matters.

Liaison with other NCA offices and other law enforcement partners in person and in writing, collating information and preparing reports and official documents.

Searching open source material, keeping abreast of news and media relating to NCA business and Serious organised crime, producing briefing and analytical products.

Arranging and attending conferences, meetings, workshops and representing the NCA at such events as appropriate.

Maintaining post cover in the absence of the International Liasion Officer.

Establishing effective and constructive relationships with interlocutors and partners.

Manage budgets, maintaining precise records on our financial management system and NCA records. Forecasting in respect of current budgetary spend and future requirements.

Provide administrative support to the NCA International Liaison Officer, producing official reports as required.

Organise travel and accommodation a for NCA staff, and official visitors.

Maintenance of an ILO diary and contacts database.  

Keep office inventories up to date, including the timely submission of returns to NCA London.

Performing ad-hoc duties such a managing other corporate duties as is commensurate to the role.

 

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

Fluency in English (both oral and written, minimum C1 level of CEFR*)

A self-starter able to work effectively either independently or as part of a team.

Ability to plan ahead and prioritise effectively.

Excellent IT skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel

Experience of budget management including monitoring spend and processing invoices.

Experience in administrative support;

Experience in producing briefing and analytical reports.

Ability to produce clear and accurate work with attention to detail.

Strong communication skills.

Understanding of policy formulation and development.

Ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.

Ability to work independently and use initiative to solve problems.

Experience in an international environment.

 

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

Previous experience in a Law Enforcement, Government, International relations or Embassy employment.

Spoken and written Maltese language

Degree Qualification in a relevant subject area.

Other benefits and conditions of employment

This is a full-time fixed-term contract of 12 months with possibility of extension.

The jobholder may be required to work out of hours in the event of an emergency - Time off in Lieu will be offered to compensate, subject to the business at the time.
