Our client, a start up company looking at setting up here in Malta are seeking to recruit a CFO. You would report into the CEO and Board of Directors.
Duties include:
Develop and execute a comprehensive financial strategy aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements
Prepare and maintain operating budgets, financial plans, and cash flow forecasts to ensure optimal liquidity and capital allocation.
Oversee the treasury and cash flow management processes, ensuring effective financial controls and banking relationships are in place
Conduct profitability and cost analyses, identifying opportunities for cost optimization and funding strategies
Monitor and enhance stress testing methodologies and financial risk management frameworks to ensure resilience and compliance with external regulatory requirements.
Ensure full compliance with Maltese financial regulations, tax laws, and AML/CFT requirements applicable to regulated businesses, electronic money, and virtual assets.
Prepare and file financial statements, VAT returns, and corporate tax returns in line with local regulatory requirements
Submit regulatory financial reports as required by the Malta Financial Services Authority(MFSA), Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU), and tax authorities
Oversee internal and external financial audits, ensuring adherence to financial reporting and compliance obligations.
Produce and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the General Manager, Group CFO, and Board of Directors.
Prepare financial projections and stress test models to support strategic decision-making and regulatory capital planning
Provide insights and recommendations based on financial performance analyses, ensuring alignment with business goals
Develop and maintain internal controls, financial governance structures, and compliance frameworks to mitigate risks
Oversee the outsourcing function and ensure that financial service providers comply with Maltese outsourcing regulations.
Ensure continuous monitoring of financial risks, including capital adequacy, liquidity, and operational financial risks.
Requirements
PCF experience (Pre-Approval Controlled Function) within a regulated financial institution in Malta or the EU.
Minimum 5+ years of experience in a senior finance role within a regulated business.
Direct experience with MFSA regulatory reporting, tax compliance, and financial audits is highly desirable.
Strong financial acumen, with in-depth knowledge of cash flow management, bank reconciliation, bookkeeping, and treasury operations.
Extensive knowledge of Maltese regulatory frameworks, including MFSA rules, FIAU AML/CFT guidelines, and tax compliance for regulated financial institutions, electronic money providers, and crypto asset businesses.
Proficiency in financial reporting software and accounting systems.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across a matrixed, decentralized, and international organization.
High level of integrity, initiative, and resilience, with the ability to navigate a dynamic regulatory environment.
Education and Experience
Professional certifications such as CFA, CPA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent.
