Reporting to the Food & Beverage Manager, this position's primary responsibility is that of ensuring day to day bar operations are catered for effectively. The position incorporates the responsibility of ensuring that the full offering is at par with the organizational standards.
Profile Overview
The Bar Tender is primarily responsible for the daily activities of the bar in question including the adherence of the full SOPs set, with the aim of meeting and exceeding organizational goals. The Bar Tender is also responsible for the introduction of innovative bar service and product related trends, with the intent of maintaining a competitive edge throughout.
Areas of Responsibility
Servicing the floor, ensuring that all standards and steps of service are met through all clients’ interactions;
Promotes effectively the beverage and food offering with the intent of meeting and exceeding revenue targets, while working at a pace that meets demand effectively;
Liaise with the Food & Beverage Manager and Duty Supervisors with the intent of gaining a full pre-shift briefing, gaining pertinent information such as house count and menu changes;
Interacts positively with clients promoting hotel facilities and services with the aim of assisting the organization maintain a strong reputation throughout. Resolve problems to the satisfaction of involved parties in a timely manner;
Provides a two-way communication and nurture an ownership environment with an emphasis on motivation and teamwork;
Remains professional and alert, especially during emergency situations and/or heavy hotel activity, serving as a role model for the clients and other hotel employees;
Ensures standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the venue are in compliance on a daily basis including the drawing of requisitions for all stock items within both the bar and buffer area, proper opening and closing functions and cashiering;
In tandem with the Food & Beverage Manager, oversees Health & Safety and Food Hygiene, ensuring that strict compliance with the legislation is maintained;
Actions reports received through the external HACCP consultant and other similar auditors;
Maintains a confident and mature approach, while practicing tact and diplomacy;
Performs other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as determined by both the line manager and organisational needs, while providing an environment of openness and trust, with constant feedback and performance coaching.
Required Skills
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, along with an excellent command of the English language;
Sales oriented mentality;
Knowledge of mixology, drink recipes, and bar equipment/tools;
Physical stamina to stand for long periods of time and physical handling of stocks, which can be heavy;
Ability to read the customer – upsell to high spenders, stop serving when limits are reached, ask for identification when customer’s age is questionable;
Multitasking;
Proficiency with POS systems and cash handling
