Our client is looking to onboard a Production Designer who will be responsible for preparing the technical drawings, fabrication details, production documentation, and material schedules required for the successful manufacture and installation of joinery, carpentry, furniture, blacksmithing, and steelwork projects.

Acting as the technical link between clients, management, the workshop, procurement, and installation teams, the Production Designer converts design concepts and project requirements into accurate, production-ready documentation, ensuring compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and manufacturing requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Technical Documentation

  • Prepare workshop, fabrication, and installation drawings for joinery, carpentry, furniture, blacksmithing, and steelwork projects
  • Interpret architectural drawings and client requirements into production-ready documentation
  • Produce technical details, assembly drawings, sections, elevations, and 2D/3D models where required
  • Review and update drawings throughout the project lifecycle

Site Surveys & Measurement

  • Conduct site surveys and take accurate measurements prior to production
  • Verify dimensions and identify site constraints affecting fabrication or installation

Production Support

  • Prepare cutting lists, fabrication schedules, and production documentation
  • Provide technical support to workshop and installation teams during fabrication and installation
  • Resolve technical issues arising during production

Material Planning & Procurement

  • Prepare material take-offs and quantity schedules
  • Liaise with Procurement regarding material specifications and project requirements

Project Coordination

  • Coordinate with the Works Manager and other stakeholders on project planning, drawing approvals, and production schedules
  • Participate in technical meetings and ensure approved documentation is issued to relevant parties

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure drawings and fabricated works comply with approved specifications and company quality standards
  • Assist in resolving fabrication and installation discrepancies

Documentation

  • Maintain drawing registers, revision logs, and project records
  • Upload and archive drawings and project documentation in company systems
  • Prepare technical reports and project updates as required

Requirements

  • Degree in Architectural Design or a related field
  • Previous experience in a similar position - ideally in Steel & Joinery 
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal in English, knowledge of Maltese would be considered a plus
  • Proficiency in AutoCad and/or similar software
  • Strong organizational skills and able to manage multiple projects at the same time
