Chief Technology Officer

Apcopay Limited is recruiting an experienced and visionary Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead our technology strategy, drive platform evolution, and oversee our technical teams, as we continue to scale and innovate.

The Position

The Chief Technology Officer will be responsible for shaping and delivering Apcopay’s technology vision, ensuring it supports the company’s strategic objectives and future growth. Based in Malta, reporting directly to the Managing Director, and forming part of the senior leadership team, the CTO will oversee all aspects of technology operations, product development, infrastructure, and information security. This role requires a balance between strategic foresight and hands-on leadership to ensure the continued innovation, reliability, and scalability of Apcopay’s payments orchestration platform.

This role involves managing the day-to-day operations of all technology functions, ensuring that all systems and technologies operate securely and efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of data protection and compliance.

A key part of the role will be to stay ahead of emerging technologies and industry trends, identifying opportunities to strengthen Apcopay’s competitive advantage. The CTO will lead and mentor a high-performing technology team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability. They will also oversee major projects such as system migrations, integrations, and technology upgrades, ensuring these initiatives deliver tangible business value.

In addition, the CTO will play a crucial role in maintaining strong relationships with clients, internal stakeholders, and technology partners, ensuring that Apcopay’s technology supports both current and future customer needs. Working closely with the Managing Director and the Board of Directors, the CTO will provide strategic insights and guidance on technology-related matters and represent the company in both local and international forums.

The Company

Apcopay Limited, orchestrated by Synthesis, is a Single Layer Payments Orchestration Platform, that has been supporting merchants since 2004. It provides a unified, all-in-one solution, offering over 40 acquiring banks and 240+ payment options, processing 100 currencies for over 1200 merchants in 25 countries and connecting through a range of payment methods, including options such as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Union Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.

The Requirements

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, and will have a minimum of eight to ten years of senior technology leadership experience, ideally within the payments, fintech, or financial services sectors. They should have a proven track record of managing complex technology platforms and leading diverse, multidisciplinary teams to deliver impactful results.

A strong understanding of payment systems, transaction processing, and integration with multiple acquirers and payment methods is essential. The successful candidate will possess deep technical expertise in software development, cloud infrastructure, APIs, and data security frameworks such as PCI DSS and GDPR. They must demonstrate excellent strategic thinking and the ability to translate technology capabilities into business growth.

Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills are critical, along with the ability to manage complex projects and technology roadmaps from concept to delivery. The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking, hands-on leader who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about leveraging technology to drive business success.
