Systems Engineer

A well-established Financial Institution within the banking sector is looking for a Systems Engineer to join its IT team. Individuals must be able to work on their initiative with minimal supervision, be hard-working and be meticulous in their work.

Responsibilities:

• Reviewing and implementing the necessary changes to the organization’s infrastructure;
• Maintaining and upgrading any physical servers and storage devices required to run the organisation's infrastructure;
• Monitoring of systems and infrastructure, and the setup of additional monitoring objects to assure visibility of the organization’s systems;
• Setting up mechanisms and systems to assure business continuity;
• Coordinating and overseeing planned failovers of all systems;
• Assuring proper backup mechanisms are in place and system up-time
• Rolling out of virtual servers to cater to additional services as per the organization’s requirements;
• Coordinating with the Security and Network Engineer on Security and Network projects.

• Minimum of 3 years working in the IT field with a minimum of 1-year experience in a similar post
• Possess strong analytical skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Have practical knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, DFS, IIS and WSUS; Microsoft Server and desktop environments.
• Other non-Windows environments, such as Red Hat Linux and other variants of this OS is a must;
• Practical knowledge of Apache HTTPD server; as well as good experience with virtualization, mainly focusing on VMWare
• Hands-on experience with MSSQL and MySQL. Ideally one would know how to setup the environment, handle backups and setup mechanisms to cater for business continuity and disaster recovery;
• Knowledgeable on storage technologies and configurations; backup technologies, with practical experience of setting up and configuring of backup solutions, mainly Veritas Backup Exec and Veeam.
• Have experience with scripting languages, particularly Windows PowerShell and Linux Bash. Some basic knowledge of php and Python will also be considered an asset;
• Have experience with networking and networking technologies and protocols.
