Role Overview
The Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust IT infrastructure solutions across both on-premise and cloud environments. This role involves leading strategic infrastructure projects, optimising system performance, ensuring security compliance, and mentoring junior team members within a dynamic and evolving IT landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Infrastructure Design and Management: Architect, deploy, and maintain enterprise-grade IT systems, including servers, virtualisation platforms, and cloud-based solutions.
• Project Leadership: Lead infrastructure initiatives such as upgrades, migrations, and new deployments, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives.
• System Optimisation: Monitor, analyse, and enhance system performance to achieve high availability and minimise downtime.
• Security and Compliance: Develop and enforce IT policies, maintain system security, manage patching and baseline configurations, and implement robust disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
• Automation and Troubleshooting: Automate routine infrastructure tasks using scripting and configuration management tools, and resolve complex technical issues across infrastructure layers.
• Emerging Technology Evaluation: Research and recommend adoption of new technologies that align with the Company’s technical and business goals.
• Documentation and Mentorship: Maintain detailed documentation of infrastructure configurations and processes, and support the professional growth of junior team members.
• Capacity and Cost Management: Assist in forecasting infrastructure needs and monitor costs, particularly in cloud environments, to optimise resource utilisation.
• Strategic Contribution: Support the development of long-term IT infrastructure strategies in line with organisational objectives.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes

• Education: MQF Level 6 Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, together with at least 3 years work experience; or 7 years work experience in an Enterprise IT environment. 
• Desirable qualifications: Certifications in IT Infrastructure such as Microsoft Windows Server Solutions, Microsoft Azure, and Linux Foundation Certification.
• Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required. Ability to communicate in Maltese is an asset.
• Communication Skills: Ability to clearly convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Interpersonal Skills: Collaborative and supportive, capable of mentoring team members and fostering knowledge sharing.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in cloud technologies, virtualisation platforms, system monitoring, storage networks, scripting, and automation tools such as PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or Terraform. Competent in cyber security princples and network fundamentals.
• Organisation: Strong organisational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
• Self-Motivated: Demonstrates initiative and the ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment.
• Problem-Solving: Skilled in diagnosing complex infrastructure issues and implementing effective solutions.
