The US Embassy in Valletta, Malta is currently looking to recruit a Protocol Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis.

Job Role:
Serves as principal advisor to the Ambassador and DCM on all activities related to their representational and ceremonial duties and is the liaison with Maltese authorities and other diplomatic missions to Malta. Plans and coordinates Executive level and mission-wide representational functions.

Additional Information:

  • One-Year Definite contract; Personal Service Agreement may be extended for an additional one-year period. Renewal is subject to available funds and the successful completion of a 12-month probationary period

Requirements:
  • At least three years of progressively responsible office experience with a strong protocol and event coordination component
  • Comprehensive knowledge of general etiquette, social standards, and diplomatic protocol of Malta with a basic understanding of American social and diplomatic procedures
  • Expert knowledge of grammatical standards and guides, dictionaries, and other editing manuals
  • Two years of University Studies
  • Fluent in both Maltese and English
  • Independent and self-starter with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills as well as strong intercultural awareness is required
  • Must deal tactfully and in a diplomatic manner, both in person and by telephone, with all levels of the Embassy’s contacts
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to changing tasks and competing priorities under pressure and be able to prioritize
  • Able to schedule major events from overall conception to final execution
  • Must be able to work independently and set priorities in order to complete work assignments in a timely manner
  • Must be willing and able to work extended hours and to be present at the Ambassador’s residence for official functions as needed, including weekends, holidays, and late evenings, with appropriate appearance and dress for the occasion
  • Must have neat and legible handwriting.
