Job details:
The National Statistics Office is looking for interested candidates to primarily work with a team of interviewers stationed at the Malta International Airport, collecting data through face-to-face interviews for the Tourstat survey, the main source of information on tourism data in the country. Survey interviewers will use paper questionnaires and/or electronic means to collect the data and may also be required to carry out other data inputting work. Survey Interviewers must be logical, methodical, and discreet in their dealings with interviewees. Based on their surveying experience, candidates may have an immediate opportunity for promotion to the post of Survey Interviewer II. Appropriate training for the role will be provided.

Responsibilities:
a) Carry out face-to-face interviews in-line with set methodologies;
b) Enter collected data electronically into a computer any other portable media device;
c) Take counts of traveling passengers;
d) Carry out other tasks as may be assigned by the Head of Unit.

Working Conditions:
The position carries a starting remuneration of €16,478 for the year 2022, which remuneration increase annually subject to provisions of the Collective Agreement 2017-2022. This remuneration excludes an annual shift allowance, and any overtime pay, which is reimbursed separately on an ad hoc basis, as the need arises. The successful applicant shall primarily be stationed at the Malta International Airport (departures lounge) and work on a 12-hourly shift basis (day-night-rest-off). At the discretion of the Management, Interviewers may be requested to work during office hours on a five-day week.

Requirements:
  • Ordinary Level passes in four (4) subjects. Passes should be in Grade A to C or t to 5 and preference will be given to passes in languages;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in Maltese and English;
  • Sound computer literacy skills and good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (preferably qualified with a European Computer Driving License - ECDL qualification);
  • An aptitude for and skill in interviewing techniques and procedures;
  • An ability to follow instructions as guided by team leaders;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills and;
  • An ability to interact with the public.
  • Applicants must be in possession of a clean Police Conduct (issued within the last 6 months).
