About Capital Markets Supervision:
The Securities and Markets Supervision Function is responsible for supervising investment services license holders, collective investment schemes, trading venues, central securities depositories, financial and non-financial entities falling under the scope of EMIR or SFTR, and recognised private collective investment schemes, registered tied agents and recognised administrators. This Function is also responsible for the regulation and oversight of activities in capital markets including the processing of applications for admissibility to listing on Regulated Markets, the processing of notifications in terms of the Securitisation Act, the supervision of the continuing obligations of Listed Companies on Regulated Markets in Malta, the supervision of the markets to identify any market abuse and to carry out any appropriate reviews where applicable.

The Role:
The MFSA is looking for a promising individual seeking growth in the dynamic area of Capital Markets. The role primarily involves the review of listed entities' compliance with their continuing obligations, especially by way of analysis of the issuers' financial information.

The selected candidate will:
  • Collaborate with team members on Enforcement of Financial Information examinations;
  • Assist in correspondence with listed entities and/or their auditors on accounting matters, including the application of IFRS;
  • Assist in the drafting of reports, a compilation of tables, and other documentation as may required;
  • Assist in specific tasks that may be required as per ESMA's Guidelines on Enforcement of Financial Information;
  • Review listed entities' publications to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Capital Markets Rules;
  • Undertake such other tasks as may be directed from time to time by line management, depending on the exigencies of Securities and Markets Supervision and the Authority.


About You:
The ideal candidate must have a solid academic background in finance or other relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 and in the process of furthering his/her studies in the area of Accountancy or be in possession of a Master in Accountancy or an equivalent qualification in the field of the Accountancy profession.

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least five (5) years' experience in a similar related role, we would still be interested in speaking with you.

The following skills and attributes are important for this position:

  • Interest in the area of Capital Markets and the ongoing supervision of listed entities;
  • A challenging mind in the application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills;
  • Attention to detail; and the ability to work in a team.
