Job Vacancy: Head of Trustees & CSPs Supervision

About the Department:
The Trustees and CSPs Supervision Function is responsible for the supervision of company service providers, who are entities or individuals providing corporate services, by way of business, including formation of companies, directorship/company secretary services and the provision of registered office, business or correspondence address for businesses. The Function is also responsible for the supervision of authorised trustees and other fiduciaries, including administrators of private foundations. The overall aim is to monitor the supervision of these entities and their level of compliance with the applicable legislative framework so as to ensure an appropriate degree of protection for the clients of persons carrying on such regulated activity.

About the Role:
Working closely with the current Trustees and Company Services Providers team and focusing on setting a vision for the function with a specific focus on where the MFSA needs to be and how to get there;

  • Enhancing and developing where necessary enhanced mechanisms to ensure effective and efficient supervision of the sector
  • Working on raising the standards within the industry by instilling a compliance culture within the area that the function supervises
  • Representing the function and the Authority and participating in local and international fora on any issues relating to the function
  • Ensuring the appropriate distribution of work tasks and the achievement of the set KPIs for individuals as well as a function
  • Coordinating and liaising with the respective regulatory and management functions and other areas of the MFSA
  • Actively work towards building strong relationships with other functions and improving communication and collaboration
  • Leading, guiding, mentoring and supporting function officials to develop the required skills to fulfil their duties
  • Enabling adequate delegation to function officials to ensure the proper functioning of the team
  • Ensuring the recruitment of staff as per budget, staff training, and performance appraisal processes
  • Managing employee retention, ensuring adequate function structure and succession planning for the team
  • Preparing resources asks for the function
  • Maintaining policies and procedures relating to the function
  • Dealing with issues relating to the affairs of the function
  • Handling any other duties as assigned by the Chief Officer Supervision and as dependent on the exigencies of the MFSA.


About You:
We are looking for candidates with solid academic backgrounds in Law, Accountancy, Banking and Finance or in Economics or another related background which may be considered relevant for this post. The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level. A post-graduate degree in a related area would be considered an asset.

You will also possess a minimum of eight (8) years working in a similar senior role and preferably twelve (12) years in a senior role in the financial services sector.

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications, but you have at least fourteen (14) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • strong leadership and people management skills;
  • excellent communication skills and analytical skills;
  • the ability to define priorities effectively;
  • effective negotiating abilities; and
  • a collaborative attitude.
