About Due Diligence:
The Due Diligence function is responsible for conducting due diligence checks on persons being proposed to take on approved positions within entities licensed by the MFSA. Among its many duties, the function is responsible for carrying out probity screenings in relation to all qualifying shareholders as well as key functionaries within a licensed entity. The Due Diligence Function shall also be responsible for carrying out ongoing checks, on a risk-based approach, to verify that approved persons are still of good repute.

The Role:

 

  • Carry out basic due diligence (DD) and enhanced due diligence (EDD) checks and inquiries;
  • Conducting reviews of application documentation submitted to the unit as part of the DD and/or EDD process;
  • Participate in interviews with applicants as required;
  • Screening of problem/high-risk involvements for approved positions in licensed entities;
  • Carry out ongoing checks on a risk-based approach to verify that approved persons are of good repute;
  • Conducting Internet searches and investigations, both reactive and proactive;
  • Analyzing, assessing, discussing, and presenting findings of investigations to senior management;
  • Preparing investigation reports, memos, and correspondence;
  • Participate in interviews with applicants as required;
  • Coordination and cooperation with other units;
  • Maintain and develop procedures and policies as required;
  • Other duties and tasks may be assigned by senior management.


About You:
To qualify for this job, you will need to have academic qualifications in financial services, criminology, or in another related background at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, in a relevant area. If your qualifications are not Maltese, please make sure that they are certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognized professional qualification at a comparable level. Sound knowledge of financial services legislation, familiarity with the financial service's regulatory framework, an understanding of financial crime including money laundering and financing of terrorism, and a relevant Post-Graduate Degree would be considered as an advantage. You will also need to have at least three (3) years experience in an analytical capacity related to the subject. Candidates with longer working experience relevant to the role will be preferred. If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but have at least seven (7) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.

The following skillset is a must for this position:

  • The ability to multi-task and work on own initiative;
  • The ability to work in a team;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • The ability to cope with a large volume of work, prioritize and deliver under pressure;
  • Sound analytical and judgmental skills.
