Deriv (Europe) Ltd in Malta is looking to recruit a Tax Manager to join their team on a full-time basis.
Job Role:
As a Tax Manager at Deriv, you'll play a strategic role in framing our tax infrastructure from compliance, advisory, planning, and process management perspectives. Your focus area is to ensure corporate compliance with applicable tax obligations. You'll lead the planning and development of internal taxation policies, incorporate them into existing accounting practices, and support tax audit liabilities. The responsibility of standardizing the tax-related processes and internal control also falls on you. The company will depend upon your knowledge of the latest direct and indirect taxes.
Your challenges:
Plan, develop, and implement tax strategies in each region, share best practices, and represent Deriv's interests to regulators and tax and government authorities.
Manage accurate and timely submission of direct and indirect tax returns, review them, and withhold them if necessary based on the local reporting requirements.
Identify and resolve tax issues, reevaluate existing practices to mitigate risks, and assess Value Added Tax (VAT) opportunities inherent in the business line.
Adhere to internal controls by streamlining processes, properly maintaining records, and implementing tax audit points.
Train a team of tax professionals to improve their daily performance and knowledge of the latest tax-related developments.
Work closely with regional tax agents, consultants, and authorities for tax audits.
Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in accounting, taxation, or any related field
5+ years of work experience in the fintech industry, preferably with a global company
In-depth understanding of local and international tax laws, tax principles, best practices, standards, and regulations
Experience of other multinational tax issues from a tax accounting standpoint
Willingness to learn new (proprietary) systems and procedures
Ability to identify process gaps and bridge them in collaboration with other teams
Good knowledge of office applications such as Microsoft Excel and accounting software
Resilience in completing tasks within a specific timeframe, especially during peak tax filing periods
An eye for detail, and organisational, leadership, and interpersonal skills
Capability to work independently
Fluency in spoken and written English communication skills
