Job Description

The role of Senior Officer (Internal Audit) reports directly to the Chief Internal Auditor. The Senior Officer (Internal Audit) will work with and assist the Chief Internal Auditor in providing independent, objective assurance designed to add value and improve the Bank’s operations. This also entails the evaluation of the reliability, effectiveness and integrity of the Bank’s processes and systems, including the relevance, accuracy, completeness and confidentiality of data, and the safeguarding of assets including the reputation of the Bank.  

Responsibilities

 Plan, organise and coordinate with the Chief Internal Auditor to develop the Risk Based Internal Audit Plan through a comprehensive risk assessment exercise, by identifying and assessing areas of significant risk.

 Plan, manage and carry out internal audit engagements as set out in the Internal Audit plan and in conformance with established internal audit practices.

 Prepare risk-based audit engagement programmes that will include the scope and objectives of each audit, based on an independent risk assessment that evaluates the key risk areas and emerging risks of the auditable areas.

 Perform suitable audit testing, evaluate the findings and identify weaknesses to make suitable recommendations for improvements in governance, risk management and control processes.

 Maintain adequate documentation and audit working papers.

 Ensure that audit assignments are completed in a timely and efficient manner.

 Report audit findings in a fair, accurate, objective, clear and constructive audit report.

 Conduct follow up reviews on the implementation of agreed action points emanating from the audit recommendations. 

 Assist in conducting ad hoc investigations of identified or reported irregularities.

 Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining internal audit policies and procedures in accordance with internal auditing best practices.

 Participate in consulting activities during development of systems, processes, policies, and procedures to provide insight on the adequacy of internal controls prior to implementation.

 Perform other duties as required consistent with the goals, objectives and responsibilities of the Internal Audit function.

Job requirements

 First degree or equivalent relating to Accountancy or Banking & Finance (minimum MQF level 6). Preference will be given to holders of professional certification related to auditing (Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Practising Certificate in Auditing issued by the Accountancy Board, Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified in Risk and Information systems Control (CRISC)).

 Preferably five years internal audit experience within a banking or financial services environment in the credit area.

 Knowledge of IFRSs, International Auditing Standards, and the International Professional Practice Framework (IPPF).

 Knowledge of legislation and regulation applicable to financial services and the AML/CFT regime.

 Strong planning and organisational skills, strong work ethic and goal-driven orientation aimed at delivering audits within set deadlines.

 Analytical mindset with strong auditing technical skills, problem solving skills and an eye for detail.

 Knowledge of IT systems.
