Job vacancy: Analyst (Authorisations) within Banking Supervision in Grade 7

About Banking Supervision:
The Authorisation team within Banking Supervision is responsible for the processing of applications of entities proposing to carry out activities in the areas of banking and financial institutions in line with both the respective acts under the local legislation. These activities are regulated and supervised by the MFSA in its role as a single regulator of financial services in Malta. The Banking Authorisation team is the entry point for a regulated entity to operate in Malta. The team is a multidisciplinary team consisting of professionals from different academic backgrounds.

The Role:
The Analyst (Authorisations) role will consist of:
  • The processing of applications/appointments/amendments to licenses;
  • Carrying out first reviews of new applications;
  • The monitoring of deadlines in the processing of applications and other work within the Function;
  • Co-ordination of the Processing of Passporting notifications in terms of the relevant EU Directives;
  • Co-ordination of the new Personal Questionnaire applications and maintaining the proper oversight during the completion of the review process;
  • Dealing with regulatory enquiries;
  • Participation and coordination of meetings;
  • Act as a contact point with licence holders, corresponding directly with these counterparties, reporting findings and resolving issues as they arise;
  • Act as a reference to other junior staff members;
  • Carry out work related to EU/ECB/EBA developments;
  • Liaising with other regulatory Functions within MFSA;
  • Cooperation with the FIAU and CBM on new applications;
  • Take decisions and act on own initiative in line with delegated authority and escalate issues outside of the area of responsibility and remit;
  • Undertake any other tasks as delegated by senior management in line with the exigencies of the Unit.


About You:
You are a candidate with a solid academic background in accountancy and good knowledge of banking or another financial services area which may be considered as relevant to this post. The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level. You will also possess a minimum of three (3) years of working experience in the area related to the role. Candidates with longer working experience relevant to the role will be preferred. If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least seven (7) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.

Preference shall be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:

  • Relevant professional experience within the payments/e-money industry and/or banking and/or within a supervisory/regulatory environment;
  • A relevant qualification in AML or Financial Crime and/or relevant professional experience.
